Novemebr 1, 2002—Becoming a "World Class" organization is one of Watkins Manufacturing's foremost goals. With that in mind, Watkins set a goal to become an ISO 9001 certified company, and proudly achieved its ISO 9001 certification to the 1994 standard in 1998. This certification is not permanent, however. The ISO 9001 accreditation standards and requirements are constantly revised and refined. Therefore, every six months Watkins is re-audited, every three years we must be re-certified, and every six years we must be re-evaluated and undergo a rigorous in-depth "transition audit" to obtain our ISO 9001 re-certification for the new established standard.
The new standard, which replaces the 1994 version, is ISO 9001:2000. This certification is the most rigid developed to date, and requires meeting a more demanding set of qualification criteria embodying a much more customer-centric approach to quality. The new standard employs a Quality Management System that helps organizations achieve overall better quality management in their operations. The new standards are also designed to further enhance efficiency, reduce operational costs, enhance customer service by minimizing product defects, maintain a factual approach to decision-making, and develop and maintain mutually beneficial supplier relationships.
